Kámoši Juniors Performing Arts Group

Kámoši Juniors Performing Arts Group works with Eastern European Romani children from Leigh in Wigan Borough. Kámoši, which means ‘friend’ in Slovak, also brings together children from all communities to work together in an integrated environment. For the last 4 years the group have been meeting every Saturday morning in Leigh to create new music-theatre end of term productions with children aged 5 to 11 years.

In partnership with Wigan Music Service, the project also offers a parallel music offer in three local primary schools. Led by Music-Leader Thomas Griffin, the young musicians have been able to further develop their music skills learning to play acoustic instruments, as well as creating their own compositions which have included lyric writing, arranging, singing and rapping. The songs reflect a wonderful array of musical instruments (created through the software they used), and include lyrics with messages of fun, peace, and what Kámoši means to them. Some of the young musicians have taken inspiration from their favourite pop tunes whilst others have devised their own beats, before going into the studio to record their music. Have a listen via our Soundcloud album.
