NEW Certificate of Music Educators

Edsential Music: Certificate for Music Educators

Applications are invited from instrumental and vocal teachers, primary teachers and teaching assistants, and music co-ordinators who aspire to music leadership for a place on our NEW two-year programme. Building on our Youth Music funded programme, Leaps and Bounds, we are delighted to offer this to EYFS practitioners in school, Children's Centres and private nursery settings.

The Edsential CME is intended for educators who do not have a formal qualification in music education: studying for this nationally recognised Level 4 qualification encourages you to reflect on your teaching and to develop new skills and understanding with the aim of enhancing your work and improving the musical outcomes of children and young people.

Course content includes:

  • Understanding how music is learnt
  • Planning, facilitating and evaluating musical learning
  • Reflective practice and professional development
  • Promoting students’ positive behaviour
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Safeguarding

When you become part of Edsential’s CME cohort, you will join a network of music education professionals.

Each learner will be allocated a dedicated mentor, access to a secure online SharePoint with resources and detailed course information: through an inclusive, activity-based learning environment, we support each other to improve practice through reflection, learning, practical application and deepening understanding.

What is the CME?

The Certificate for Music Educators is recognised on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) Level 4. The Edsential CME is regulated and awarded by Trinity College London and led by Alison Corten (Head of Music Service) and Cate Madden (Culture Lead and DDSL), and Quality Assured by Dr Si Poole, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader, University College of Chester.

Applicants must already have musical skills at a level which enables them to fulfil their role satisfactorily. This course will not teach you how to play an instrument!

Access to a computer and the internet is required.

Only available from accredited organisations, learning is based around your current job role so it is important that your work setting is supportive of your participation in the course.
