5 Ways to Market Your Band

There are 100s of ways to market your band, but here are my top 5!

1. Website: You want your Website to be your main hub when you are in a band. The website is what you want your audience to see first. It’s important that you keep your website clean and simple. If you clutter your website, it will be harder to find the most important things.

What to include on your website:

  • Contact details
  • Social network links
  • Short bio
  • Music links
  • High quality photos

2. Social Media: Social networks are the best way to communicate and update your audience. Post regularly but don’t spam. Choose a time each night to post an update about your band. Most social networking sites have a built in scheduler so it will post for you at a certain time each day. Run competitions to help you gain a bigger following.

What Social networks should I use?

  • Facebook (post important things daily – gigs, videos, photos)
  • Twitter (quick snappy updates)
  • Instagram (upload gig photos – big word limit here so link with Twitter)
  • LinkedIn (record labels are here – be professional!)
  • YouTube (upload music videos & vLogs)

3. Be social at gigs: Talk to your audience on and off stage. You never know who might be at your gig. Be friendly with the promoter as they will be more likely to book you for another gig if they know you are pleasant to work with.

4. Create a mailing list: Collect your fans’ email addresses after gigs as you can then use websites such as MailChimp to send newsletters, offers & competitions to everyone on your list!

5. Press kit: Press kits are great to have. Make sure they contain high quality items.  Professional press kits can be quite expensive so do not waste them. Send them to big promoters & journalists.

What to include in your press kit:

  • Biography
  • CD
  • High resolution photos
  • Contact details

You have to work to get noticed so don’t get complacent!
