Representation in the Primary Arts Curriculum
Event description
Join us in a safe and supportive environment where we will explore sensitive issues of 'race', racism, and representation with a focus on the arts and culture. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge and tools to implement whole school approaches to anti-racism and diversify the arts curricula, so that your pupils can thrive in a culturally responsive environment.
This course will be spilt over 4 x 2 hour online twilight sessions, each one exploring a different subject area. Once your place is booked, you will be given access to your online learning portal on Thinkific
This course is split over 4 sessions:
Session 1: Tuesday 9th January, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Key curriculum principles for embedding broad and balanced representation. Pupil audit tools to measure stereotypes, assumptions and perspectives. A range of art-based examples, projects and resources.
Session 2: Tuesday 16th January, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Understanding ‘race’ and racism through examining history, concepts, terminology and the school context.
Session 3: Tuesday 23rd January, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Framework for anti-racism in the primary curriculum through consideration of key themes, progression, age appropriateness, and local context. Practical arts examples for the classroom.
Session 4: Tuesday 30th January, 4:00pm - 6:00pm
Critical evaluation of global/cross-racial/diverse artists and arts projects for primary arts education.
