New music project for young people aged 12-19 with learning disabilities!

Octave is a new music and drama project for young people aged 12-19 with mild to moderate learning disabilities.

From February - June 2013 a music and drama project, Octave will begin with weekly sessions on Monday afternoons (in school hours 12.45 – 2.45pm) working with a group of young people aged 12-19 with learning disabilities.

Through weekly, 2 hour sessions (taking place, primarily, in the Howard Assembly Room at Opera North) we will work with up to 15 young people, culminating with a relaxed performance for friends and family of the participants.

As part of the sessions the young people will work with two professional artists (a director and a composer) on high quality singing, song-writing, dialogue, script, simple design, music and movement activities.

We will be holding two FREE taster sessions on Monday 4th and 11th February from 12.45 - 2.45pm at Opera North for any schools, organisations or individuals interested in joining this project!

We are keen to hear from young people interested in the arts and who are unable to engage in mainstream activities due to their learning disability.

Whether you are an individual, school, SILC, support group or interested family member, please get in touch to receive more information about the project and to register your interest. The cut-off date for registering interest in the project and signing up for taster sessions is Wednesday 16 January 2013.
