Organisations receiving Youth Music Programme grants announced

Youth Music is pleased to announce that 89 organisations have been offered funding under the April 2012 round of the Youth Music Programme.

The Programme provides funding for organisations, enabling them to transform the musical experiences of young people; encouraging their talent, building their confidence, and ensuring an effective and sustainable youth music sector.

Grants and Learning Specialist Carol Reid says:

“We’ve been inspired by the passion, determination and commitment evident in all the applications we have assessed over the course of this funding round.  Across the portfolio of organisations we’re funding, there are a wide variety of programmes using a diverse range of musical approaches targeting children and young people across England.  We’re looking forward to working with those organisations that have been offered a grant, and to sharing our collective learning and effective practice more widely through the Youth Music Network.”

Modules

Organisations were given the opportunity to apply for up to five modules each. Two of our strengthening the sector modules – Musical Inclusion and Networking - building and maintaining networks – aim to improve the musical education landscape for all children and young people.

Musical inclusion

Youth Music’s Musical Inclusion module aims to ensure opportunities exist for children and young people in challenging circumstances to access and progress through high quality music making across England.  Grantees will work closely with key stakeholders, in particular Music Education Hubs and Arts Council Bridge Organisations, championing the importance of high quality music-making opportunities in improving the life chances of children and young people in challenging circumstances.

Networking – building and maintaining networks

Youth Music is funding two types of networks across the country, focused on encouraging talent and potential or early years music-making.
