What's the best way for my child to learn music?

Youth Music have created this handy free resource for parents, carers and adults introducing them to the variety of ways in which young people can get involved in music-making.

Singing, playing instruments, performing, composing, recording and producing are enjoyable, creative and fulfilling things to learn.

But just as importantly, music-making has social and emotional benefits: helping young people to make friends, develop leadership and teamwork skills, improve mood and relieve stress, and build confidence.

We at Youth Music believe that every child should have the opportunity to make music. All music-making is fantastic and valuable, but we know children learn best in different ways, and of course the same child can try out many different styles.

This handy guide introduces parents to the benefits of a variety of teaching and learning methods, backed up by our expert research and our experience of funding life-changing music-making projects for over 2.5 million children since 1999. If you're a teacher or music project manager, please do pass it on to anyone who might find it useful.
