The return of the Vlog!
We are delighted to share the story of our Youth Ambassador Olivia Seaward. Way back in March Olivias response to Covid was to roll her sleeves up and ask how she could get involved to further support our project MusicAtTheEdge. Olivia had been a regular participant in our project since 2011. She has regularly attended workshops and recording sessions, performed at our regular live music events and starred in several of our music videos. Olivia has become a talented piano and guitar player with a well-developed understanding of arrangement and music theory. Her time spent on the YES Brixham premises allowed her to make friends outside of the music workshops and Olivia joined our Young Volunteer project helping to plan and deliver the charities annual Christmas Grotto. Olivia has stayed active throughout lockdown, planning and presenting a weekly Vlog teaching bitesized musical theory concepts which she named Musication! Olivia has also helped to create two episodes of a podcast featuring interviews and live music from 4 of our young people with another Youth Music funded project Sound Communities (they are great please check out the work they do!) Olivia then helped co-ordinate and present an online live music festival featuring a dozen performers which was organised with The Fishermans Mission to raise awareness for the fishing industry. She has also contributed to three online collaboration music videos and participated in live stream interview with a third-party music practitioner discussing the Covids effect on mental health for young musicians. In July MusicAtTheEdge nominated her for the Mayors Special Recognition Award for the work she has done, and we were delighted when she won! In her letter from Mayor Maggie Douglas-Dunbar, Olivia was described as an 'exceptional young person' and a 'shining example', we couldn’t agree more, Olivia is now planning a live stream Christmas concert and has 'taken over' our Instagram page!
