Shining Stars Podcast Group

Our Projects started in July 2022 with 2 taster sessions. 10 young people attended, since then 5 more young people joined the project; between 6 - 10 young people attend each session depending on their availability. Content for the Podcast was identified by the young people over a period of a few months. Young People were encouraged to listen to different music genres during each session, they have put together a play list to be used for the end of project Genre Quiz, songs/music include their own taste and those of their parents and other family members. Some members of the group have taken speakers and Spotify out to comunity events e.g., the Autmn Leaving Care BBQ inviting other young people to share their taste in music.

Young people have been working closely with musicians to learn skills in guitar, keyboard and drums. Some young people enjoy writing song lyrics and others covering songs and recording. All the young people have looked at editing & production, some of the less confident in performing enjoy this side of podcast making.

A small group of young people took recording equipment out into the community and invited the public to provide their hopes and wishes for the Christmas Festivities; these young people have also carried out interviews with peers around what they enjoy about coming to the Hive and working with the musicians.

Compiling playlists and DJing is popular within the group, young people have a wide range of musical tastes and like to share them with each other.

This term young people reflected on what they have learnt and identified what skills they would like to develop. Issues that affect young people are being discussed in preparation for holding interviews with County Councillors, Safety and inclusion within the Community; Services for young people i.e., places to meet; and the high turnover of social workers are the main themes emerging.

Young people are looking forward to a talk by a Podcaster; attending a Music Festival and visiting a local venue that supports new bands, we have a busy few months ahead.
