Sounds of Foleshill - final part of Nature Beats Sonic Signatures Programme

We are so excited to present two musical pieces as the final part of our Nature Beats Sonic Signatures programme. The young people have produced these pieces in collaboration with musician Luke Weaver and have had the wonderful opportunity to participate in workshops with local musicians, Manahra Patel, Parv Kaur from Eternal Taal and Godiva Coventry.

Sounds of Foleshill is a musical soundscape produced by young people in collaboration with lcoal musicians. Sounds have been collected through nature walks in Foleshill (Coventry), including the canal, streets and local green spaces. The participants learnt more about the natural diversity and heritage of their local area with instructor, Alex Hampson and bespoke research carried out by Oden Copson. Young people had masterclasses with local musicians - Mahandra Patel (Kadence Music), Parv Kaur (Eternal Taal) and musical storytelling sessions with Godiva Trust. This was a 7-week experience that was thoroughly enjoyed by the young people where they learnt about their local neighbourhood and about the diverse cultures of Coventry expressed through music. Each musician brought with them, a wealth of experience of their cultural backgrounds, their own musical journey and current career goals. Mahendra Patel is a leading musician working with various Coventry City of Culture programmes such as, the Abundance project that the young people took part in. Parv brought with her, her inspirational personal journey of her passion of music and how she set up the first female Dhol band and has perfomed at various events such as Glastonbury Festival and for Bollywood features. Pru Poretta, Coventry's Lady Godiva and Kusumika Chatterjee brought with them a performance of a Monsoon story with music by local musician Dave Cross. Kusumika spoke of her experiences of migrating to Coventry many decades ago and her rich experience of living in Coventry and being a part of the community initiatives through the Godiva Trust. The young people have been truly inspired by the local talent and some of them have signed up to volunteer at future Godiva Trust events. https://soundcloud.com/wildearthuk/sounds-of-foleshill-master?si=ff64dbd...
