Soundscape Landscape: Experimenting with music, sound and visual art
A collaboration between Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisations; Carousel and Project Artworks:
As part of an experimental and successful project called Sound Sculpture (please see my previous blogs) which involved designing, building, and playing homemade instruments the Carousel House Band had begun to explore the potential of combining sound creation and visual art. Through a series of experiments exploring how the two disciplines could be interrelated we began a journey towards a new project which would eventually see the band collaborating with visual artists with complex support needs, devising an interactive installation as well as delivering a CPD session for the staff at Project Artworks.
During our rehearsals we invited the Project Artworks creative programme manager to visit and take part in some of our experiments. This was a great opportunity for our learning-disabled artists to share their creative practice with a visitor from another organisation, they were very excited to share ideas and discuss ways the two organisations might be able to collaborate.
One of our areas of research involved combining live drawing and music to inspire new methodology as well as experimenting with sensor technology and art materials to create interactive sound/visual art pieces. The pictures show the Carousel House Band exploring some of these ideas and sharing them with the creative programme manager from Project Artworks
