Synthesize Me! Sourcing household items for creating new sounds

As part of our new project Synthesize Me! our learning disabled artists are using household items sourced from local charity shops to create sound samples. Charity shops are a great resource for this project, a wide variety of items can be explored for their sound possibilities and it is a great activity and challenge for the artists. Once captured the sounds can easily be edited and manipulated using digital software. Delia Derbyshire, our inspiration for this part of the project would explore changing the pitch of similar sound sources by slowing or speeding up tape machines. Sounds could also be reversed by reversing the tape spools. We can explore these sounds and many more using modern effects patches within recording software.
