Tower Hamlets Black History Month Commissions 2023

The Council’s Arts, Parks and Events Team are helping facilitate a programme of events for Black History Month for October 2023. This year, we have some money available to commission projects and events with fees of between £1000 and £2000 (excluding VAT).  This is not a grant; it is a commission for organisers to deliver standalone content for Black History Month on behalf of Tower Hamlets Council.

We are seeking proposals for community-focused, cultural, arts, and heritage-based activities and events that celebrate Black history, arts and culture. They must take place within the borough. For full details about the key criteria and how to submit your proposal, please go to https://www.towerhamletsarts.org.uk/?cat=13&cid=76091&guide=ArtsInfo

The deadline for receipt of proposals is 9am, Monday 5 June

Black History Month Information Session - Open meeting on 17th May, 6-7pm

The council will be hosting an informal session to help potential bidders understand the council’s procurement system.  We are keen to minimise barriers that prevent grassroots or voluntary organisations from submitting proposals. Representatives from the council’s Equalities team as well as the Arts and Events team will be on hand to guide through the process and answer and queries you may have about how best to meet the commissioning criteria, and become registered as a council supplier.

This is also an opportunity to find out more about how to plan your event, how to find venues and partners, what resources the council can offer and how we the council can offer support  with marketing and promotion. If you would like to be part of this year’s programme, do be aware that all activities must take place within Tower Hamlets.

The information session will take place at Brady Arts and Community Centre, 102-196 Hanbury Street, London, E1 5HU on Wednesday 17 May, 6-7pm. Free but booking recommended.  Please reserve your place at https://BHM-infoandcommissioning2023.eventbrite.co.uk
