About
I am an early years music specialist based in Whitley Bay (North East England) with over fifteen years’ experience. I play the flute, djembe and a very small amount of ukulele. I use singing, movement play and exploration of high quality musical instruments in my work with children and families. I use Makaton, and provide live music experiences too. I am confident in leading CPD for a range of audiences.
I believe:
- All children are entitled to make music, sing and dance. This is their right
- Children are musically competent. I respect and value their musical expression
- Parents/carers must be involved in creative projects, and respected as the child’s primary educator
This ethos informs all of my work.
I work in partnership with parents, early years educators, managers, organisations and consultants. I have delivered successful projects in a range of settings including primary schools, Children’s Centres, Sure Start Centres, nurseries and libraries.
I am currently EYFS Consultant for Culture Bridge North East. This is an exciting new role which I am thoroughly enjoying.
I am the project lead on Music Moves, which starts in January 2022 in Sir James Knott Nursery School in North Shields. This is an early years music project. Our aim is to explore the best ways of working with two year olds who were born at the beginning of lockdown 2020. We will try a range of approaches to musical play with two year olds, early years practitioners and parents/carers. This includes working with therapy animals for the first time, which I can't wait for. We are also being guided by Jessica Pitt to complete action research as part of this work too. I will be blogging about this project every half term, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
