The SoundWaves Network - an Early Years Music Programme in the South West

The SoundWaves Network is an early childhood music education programme incorporating a strong element of training for the current and future early childhood workforce in the South West. The project is taking place within three music-learning communities, located in Plymouth, Bristol and Somerset, working with their early childhood settings, universities offering Early Childhood Courses, Early Years Advisory Teams and Music Education Hubs.  Take Art's Early Years Music Lead Jane Parker is working with a team of six Early Years Music practitioners - five of which have completed or are completing the Certificate Music Education: Early Childhood http://www.crec.co.uk/level-4-cert-music-ed-early-childhood . Our Early Years Music practitioners are working in a pairs in EYs settings combining their expertise with setting staff. Sessions focus on supporting staff not only to be equipped with appropriate songs and activities to develop children’s musicality but also to notice and discuss young children’s spontaneous music making and look at ways staff might play creatively with children. Our Early Years settings have put together presentations of their learning journeys. Their presentations can be viewed here https://takeart.org/early-years/early-years-video-library under 'Sharing Our SoundWaves Network Presentations'. Finally, please do watch the vignettes captured by both the Early Years setting staff alongside our Early Years Music practitioners of children's spontanous musicality under 'Early Childhood Music Vignettes from The SoundWaves Network'. You can also see some lovely examples of adult's as the interested musical play partners. We use these films to show as part of our ongoing professional development events which are here https://takeart.org/soundwaves-network For further information, please do get in touch with Jane -  jane@takeart.org
