Breakthrough Music - Christmas Light Switch On

As part of our Youth Music funded project, young people from Redcar North Yorkshire had the opportunity to work with community music leaders to learn a new instrument, participate in the development of Youth Bands and develop their music abilities within Tuned In! youth centre. Young people had individual instrument tuition in Guitar, Bass, Vocals and Drums along with Songwriting tuition. Young people communicated with peers helping with social developments that saw active peer mentoring along with developing their individual music skills. The aim was to increase opportunities for young people and nurture young talents within Redcar & Cleveland through a new performance platform as part of the 'Redcar Live' Christmas light switch on. Each week young people worked on various songs in a variety of genres including Pop, Rock and Indie. This would then lead on to a mini showcase at the end of each session to show peers what they had all been working on. By participating in group and individual music activities this helped to increase confidence levels of the young people by showcasing their works. Young people worked on group songs by honing in on their musical strengths and desire to learn a new style of music or instrument. Young people were given performance opportunities as part of the workshops at the Redcar Live Christmas Light Switch On on Saturday 7th December. This was a fantastic platform and experience for the young people to perform in their hometown to members of the public and community.  This project will continue run in 2020 as part of a two year project.
