On 26 September 2012, NYMAZ held the launch of our NEW Early Years Music Network at the Old Courthouse in Thirsk. The day was a rousing success with an introduction by NYMAZ Director Heidi Johnson on the purpose and aims of the network to develop into a fantastic resource for all early years practitioners.

The keynote address, delivered by renowned early years expert Colwyn Trevarthen, Professor of Child Psychology and Psychobiology at the University of Edinburgh, was entitled Why All Human Movement Have To Be In Musical Time, To Tell Their Story. This was an eye-opening demonstration of the profound and organised way babies interact, much like a jazz duet!

The afternoon also showcased taster sessions of upcoming training for delegates. Rebecca Gross provided workshops on Music and SEN, Chris Bartram took the theories of Prof Trevarthen's 'communicative musicality' and applied practical concepts for Music and Movement workshops and Andrew Cleaton delivered a workshop on Music and Technology.

Helen Lovell from Youth Music was also on hand to provide information on the changes to Youth Music and guidance on the Early Years Children at Elevated Risk module.
