NYMAZ SEND Music Network Gathering, 6 October

There's one week left to book a place at the NYMAZ SEND Music Network Gathering, taking place in Richmond, North Yorkshire on Tuesday 6th October.

Tuesday 6 October 2015 1pm - 4.30pm The Kings Head Hotel, 10 Market Place, Richmond North Yorks, DL10 4HS

Delivered as part of the NYMAZ SEND Music Network, this event provides an opportunity for those working with children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities to learn from the latest research, take away new skills, discover cutting edge technology, and network with others working in similar contexts.

This year's programme includes:

Best Practice in SEND Music Education: Sarah Mawby, PhD researcher at the University of Leeds, will present findings from her recent research into the benefits of music education and music therapy for young people with special educational needs, and will give an early insight into a new long-term study of music practice in Yorkshire special schools.

Drake Music – Assistive Music Technology: In this session, Drake Music's Gary Day will introduce the organisation, and demonstrate innovative assistive technology currently being used to make music accessible to those with disabilities, as well as giving delegates some hands-on experience.

Inclusive Music-Making – Communication and Play: Musician Kate Pearson will lead this practical workshop, an opportunity to try out new activities exploring communication and play through the sharing of sounds and messages, and creating new songs from those experiences. Using music and crafts, this activity works especially well with those with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and younger children with special educational needs.

Introduction to Sign-Supported Communication: Especially for music leaders, Accessible Arts & Media will demonstrate sign-supported methods for communicating with people with disabilities, helping delegates to gain communication skills which can be applied in a range of situations, including Singing and Signing.
