Engaging with Gypsies & Travellers
Rhythmix has been working with Families Friends and Travellers (FFT) for a number of years to provide music-making opportunities for young Gypsies and Travellers, tailored to their specific cultural needs and interest. Friends Families and Travellers are delivering a half day seminar for workers and volunteers in voluntary or statutory organisations wanting to engage or work more effectively with Gypsies and Travellers.
Funded by an Youth Music Open Module (Traveller Musical Youth of Today link- http://network.youthmusic.org.uk/near-you/projects/traveller-musical-you...) the project activities include lyric writing, beat making, recording and performing of traditional and contemporary music. This partnership working has been a positive step towards promoting positive understanding of Traveller culture through the love of music.
