My name is Paul Hawkins and I am the Head of Volunteering & Skills Development for Attitude is Everything, a charity who work to improve access to life music for Deaf and disabled people. We have recently got three years funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to National Lottery Community Fund to improve opportunities for Deaf and disabled people to work in the music industry.

You can find out more about the project here: http://www.attitudeiseverything.org.uk/news/beyond-the-music-initiative-launched

The project aims to benefit anyone who works or aspires to work in the music industry (including those who want to pursue DIY or informal routes) and who identifies as

  • Deaf
  • Disabled
  • Neurodiverse
  • Having a mental health condition
  • Having a long term health condition

As part of this work, we want to let you know about some new opportunities including:

1.The Beyond the Music Professionals’ Network

We aim to launch our Professionals Network in late 2020 and we aim to provide:

  • A chance to meet other disabled people who work or volunteer in the music industry
  • A chance to share ideas with others with lived experience and talk about possible solutions to any barriers you face
  • Training and skills development opportunities
  • Opportunities to hear talks from music industry leaders

Anyone interested can join up here by filling out this registration form here

2. The Beyond the Music Survey

We want to find out as much as possible about the barriers Deaf, disabled and neurodiverse people and people with mental or physical health conditions face when working in the music industry and the steps that can be taken to address them.

If you work or want to work in the music industry and have an impairment or health condition, we’d really appreciate it if you could fill out this survey: https://bit.ly/BTMsurvey

The survey is really important to shaping the work we do over the next three years. We estimate it will take most people around ten minutes to fill in but it may take longer depending on your access requirements and the level of detail you want to provide.

3. Skills Development Manager

We are looking for a Skills Development Manager who can work with Deaf and disabled people seeking to work in the industry and support them around finding placements and opportunities.

The job advert is here:

4. Working with other organisations

We are keen to speak to other organisations who would like to get involved in our project, or who share similar aims to us around diversifying the music industry.

If you would like to find out more about the project and how you can get involved, please drop me an email at paul@attitudeiseverything.org.uk
