Next Gen Music

Chapel FM

At Heads Together Productions we have just completed a six month Next Generation Music Course. The young people participated in the course and learned to play and improvise together. Some have expressed a wish to go on to play in a band and all have told us that they would like to return to the next installment of the course, where we will work on and develop them even further.

We have a young man who has taken to the bass very well, he is now trying out different techniques including slide bass, he has grown in confidence in this area and has also  began one to one bass lessons with our music assistant.

We also had a young person who began began to play the drums when her guitar was broken. She had no experience playing the drums but took to it very quickly and now keeps the basic drum beat going with no help.  Rosa has been learning some drum roles and has begun to bring different elements to the song, bringing in the chorus with a certain drum fill.

One young person is training classically at school so had little to no experience with improvising, however she has tried one note improvising and is now trying to put this into the music she plays on the keyboard. She really came out of her shell during the theatre/ voice art session that Jonathan ran. She took part in the conducting and spoke out in the space on her own. She has opened up musically and is starting to improvise rhythmically, introducing a 'middle 8' to the song we have been writing.

One young person came to us extremely shy. She has really found some focus with the drum kit and now can hold a basic drum beat throughout a song. She played a song she has learned on the keyboard during the voice art session, and tried out different ways of playing the chords. She has started learning different drum fills and has started to introduce them to bring in the chorus.

Another young person is very distracted thoughout the sessions and it is difficult to get him to focus, however  he does enjoy playing the keyboard and his behaviour improves during these times. He responded really well to the voice art session, he asked to be the conductor and was really involved in the piece.  He has since started to play the drum kit and can play the basic drum beat with no help. Also it is at these times that he appears his most focussed and on task.

another young person came to us in a giddy state, but since joining she has shown an interest in vocal writing and singing. She engages well during these activities and is keen to learn.
