Call out for Trustees

Brighter Sound is looking to expand its Board of Trustees.

Founded in 2000, Brighter Sound produces creative music events, courses, residencies and development opportunities for all people of all ages and abilities across the North West. We also work with Music Education Hubs and music organisations across the region, focusing on strategic development, organisational support, research and consultation.

We work in the spaces between what is already on offer, and set the standards for quality creative education that pushes the possibilities of learning through music.

Projects in the last twelve months have included an acclaimed artistic residency, “Chaos to Order” as part of the launch of Manchester’s newly re-opened Central Library, an artistic residency for emerging professional musicians led by Beth Orton, a partnership project with British Council in Wuhan, China, an artistic commission with scientists at the National Graphene Institute, Manchester University, an action research project in schools around artistic pedagogy, a highly successful project for young songwriters at Band on the Wall, a programme to support and profile young female musicians, together with a range of courses and events for families, children and young people and adult learners and most recently, a highly successful commission for Reebok which brought multiple Grammy Award winner Kendrick Lamar to a workshop for a group of young Manchester hip hop artists.

The company is going through an exciting period of growth and development. We are a registered charity and receive funding from Youth Music and Arts Council England amongst others. We also work as a commissioned organisation regionally, nationally and internationally.

We have an excellent team who continue to innovate, pursue excellence and drive the company forward.

In order to add to our existing board, we are looking for new Trustees with energy, commitment and expertise in the following areas:

  • Artistic expertise & leadership
  • Communications & marketing
  • Fundraising & development
  • Cultural development and international cultural relations
  • Commercial enterprise & entrepreneurship
