Synthesize Me! Bloom app review
The Carousel House Band consists of learning disabled musicians and music facilitators. We have been looking at using and reviewing music apps for our current project called Synthesize me! In this review we are looking at an app called 'Bloom' It was created by producer and musician Brian Eno and Peter Chilvers. Eno is a celebrated electronic musician and innovator of creative ideas. He has been making cutting edge music for many years and collaborated with people such as David Bowie. Peter Chilvers is a musician and software designer.
The credentials of the makers of this app shine through as Bloom is desined to create gentle sonic soundscapes which are generated by the user who interacts with the app by touching the screen. Colourful circles evolve in a pleasing array of colours. The user guides the generation of the sound, visually it reminded me of the screen savers or music visualisers often found on computers. I think this app is perfectly suited to users with limited motor skills as the screen can be interacted with as much or as little as wanted. The app carries the sound through periods of inactivity from the user and the sounds evolve in a pleasant ambient way. The user can control the theme of the soundscape and change parameters such as the delay rate. I think the app is great, my only criticism is that it would have been made better if had a record and export function.
