Synthesize Me! Recreating the sounds recorded by Delia Derbyshire

Delia Derbyshire created sounds from everyday household items as part of her pioneering soundtracks for the BBC Radiophonic workshop. Her colleagues make reference to wine bottles and a lampshade being items she would often use in her work.

The Carousel House Band, an integrated band of learning disabled musicians and music facilitators explored making sounds from similar items as a starting point for creating a sound library of sounds to create original music.

A cooking pot lid is a simliar a shape to a lampshade and makes a very satisfying resonant sound when struck with a soft mallet. Bottles can be tapped or blown accross the top to create interesting sounds. Filling the bottles with varied ammounts of water changes the pitch of sounds available
