Young People's Consultation on Music Programmes

Last week Wednesday we held a consultancy group comprised of nine young people who had previously engaged with one of our music programmes at Knowle West Media Centre. The night was a great opportunity to reconnect, check-in and explore how the participant’s trajectory has been impacted by their time with us.

The evening consisted of various exercises and group activities that were created to draw out information on how we could improve our programmes to better serve their needs and not just our objectives. One young person said “I believe there are enough services in Bristol to support us but it’s a challenge to know what all of them are and I don’t think the different organisations talk to each other enough.” Another said “what makes Knowle West Media Centre different is because you all really care about us and it shows.”

Overall the night was a great insight into how to we can not only improve our practice but also stay connected to those who we’ve previously worked with. All participants were paid for their time also to help them recognise the value they have as consumers, young people and musicians. We can’t wait for more sessions.
