Leadership, Power, and the Art of Difficult Conversations - CPD from Sound Connections
Event description
Dive into the issues that are are essential to working and leading inclusively, in a safe space for reflection, self-discovery and honesty at this Training and Professional Development session from Sound Connections.
This two-part session will be led by Margaret Pierre and Steph Dickinson and hosted by Brenda Rattray.
Both Margaret and Steph shared their experiences at the Inclusive Practice in Action annual gathering in March 2023 and we wanted to give them a platform to take delegates deeper into some of the issues they feel are essential to working and leading inclusively. This will be a safe space for reflection, self-discovery and honesty as we learn together.
Part 1: Leadership, Authority & Power – Margaret Pierre
To be effective global and inclusive leaders, thinking about how we show up in our leadership roles is important. We will explore how we take up our authority as leaders and encourage others to do the same; what part does power have to play in this, where does it come from and how can we give it away?
Part 2: The Art of Difficult Conversations – Steph Dickinson
If we truly want to see equity and justice in our spheres of influence we must learn to lean into discomfort and master the art of difficult conversations. We will explore the reasons why conversations can be challenging, the skills needed to facilitate robust conversations and the tangible change we can expect to see when we learn the art of having difficult conversations.
What will delegates gain from the session:
- Space for self-reflection
- An opportunity to reflect on yourself in your current role or in preparation to step into a new/different role.
- Increased understanding of how dynamics play out between authority and power.
- Increased understanding of why some types of conversations are difficult.
- Practical solutions or strategies to implement for yourself or your team.
Who is it for:
This event is particularly relevant to anyone working with children and young people as educators, youth workers, artists, creative practitioners, producers or managers in the education, youth work, arts and charity sectors, but is also open to anyone interested in this work. We welcome organisations and individuals from across sectors who wish to explore inclusive practice and take action to change for the better.
