New Resource Available - Lincolnshire Sings

Lincolnshire Sings, a new online mapping resource, went live on the soundLINCS website this month to help people find and get involved with community choral groups in their area.

The project was created to help support schools with their singing strategies as part of the National Music Education Plan. The purpose of the research was to locate established choirs to enable schools to create links with or to get help establishing new groups. It is also an excellent progression route for children at the schools, providing the platform for them to pursue singing outside of school and truly develop their potential, especially in such a rural County as Lincolnshire.

Response to the project has been excellent, helping plot an extensive landscape of the county’s choral activity. The results truly display the diverse and excellent range of singing opportunities available in Lincolnshire, from rock choirs to barbershop quartets and sea shanties to Gilbert and Sullivan. So whether you’re looking to croon out the classics or harmonise to some hymns, there’s something for everyone to get involved with to help get Lincolnshire singing!

Lincolnshire Sings contains a wide variety of choral groups and societies from all corners of the county and has been organised to allow singers to search through the results for specific group, or to filter their needs and preferences in order to find a group relevant to them. The map then allows the user to discover more information about the choir; including contact details, style and rehearsal time and venue.

The map is part of our National Foundation for Youth Music’s funded Network Programme, EMTaP – East Midlands Talent & Potential - a programme that has additional funding and support from all the East Midlands Music Education Hubs.

Stemming from a need highlighted by Lincolnshire Music and Arts Education Hub singing working group,  soundLINCS created  Lincolnshire Sings with support from Lincolnshire Music Service.  Beginning with an extensive consultation period and a concentrated press campaign, which generated a fantastic response to the project, with well over 100 groups and societies eager to be a part of the resource. Although the work doesn’t stop here, as the project will be ongoing with more groups and societies being added by the day!

Our aim is for Lincolnshire Sings to become a one stop shop for aspiring singers wanting to find a group they can join, or for school teachers trying to find which choirs and established societies there are close to them that they can affiliate with. We hope it will encourage and enable young people and adults who love to sing the opportunity to easily find out how and where to go to join others who share their passion!

The map is live now and can be viewed on our website at www.soundlincs.org/lincolnshire-sings-mapping/. If you know of any other singing or vocal groups in Lincolnshire that aren’t yet on the map please get in touch with us at info@soundlincs.org or by calling us on 01522 510073 and we will happily include them.
