XLR Collective (Session) 21/8/17

Coaching, value excercise and live music.

After a well deserved break last week, the XLR Collective regrouped for their next session. Starting the night off with a round table update on what everyone had been up to (led by James), Mena followed up with the next steps for the team's coaching sessions. Our program will be offering free (optional) coaching to all of the participants in this year's collective, an initiative many of the young people have chosen to engage with.

Next up, I spoke to the group about social media and checked on the progress of how they were progressing with running their online social campaign against gender-based harassment. Following that, I gave a short talk on the importance of self-value.  With so many different gifts and talents in the group we want to ensure that everyone sees the contribution they're making to the success of their initiative. I ended with an exercise that had each team member (including staff) write down one thing they knew (not thought) they did well even if no one had ever told them they did it well before. They also wrote one thing they believed the person next to them did well. After a couple of minutes to prepare we went around the room to share. It was great to see the confidence in their responses and the smiles when they were being complimented.

After a quick break, half of the team went into the live studio to work on more songs for their upcoming EP while the other half went to listen to tracks that were created by other members of the group who have producer roles within the group.

We're excited to see the development of the collective in the last phase on the program. So much growth has taken place and we believe much more is to come.
